Ich poste diesen mal - auch auf die gefahr hin, dass mir der Mod die eier lang zieht.

Zur info: Ich bin mit der firma in keinsterweise verbunden und weiss nicht wer dahinter steckt. aber es scheint sich um einen service von immigrants for immigrants zu handeln. in erster linie geht es wohl um short term accomodations und set up services. die preise sind m.e. absolut fair (fast schon selbstkosten preise u.a. airport pick up fuer 40-50$, uebrnachtung ab 30$, etc.) - von daher finde ich sollte man diesen link hier mal posten.

ansonsten ist die Seite schon cool
auf einer englischen Seite den Service anbieten sich in einen Englischlernkurs eintragen zu lassen ich vermisse die verschiedenen ursprungssprachen der potentiellen Kunden wie sollen sie sonst den Service lesen koennen

Ouch. Beware of these services.

They are typically offered by guys who run, often illegal, rooming houses in the middle of nowhere. You'll end up somewhere in suburbia with little access to transport, in a house that's a firetrap.

Toronto has a fixed fare from the airport to downtown, currently that fare is $40, with a $5 tip expected by the driver. Always take an official cab or black airport limo, never go with any of the touts that will approach you in the airport itself. They are illegal, uninsured and will overcharge you for as much as they can get away with.

To look for accommodation in Toronto check out craigslist or kijiji. If you're ready to rent an apartment, craigslist or viewit.ca are your best options.

And always remember, if a deal seams too good to be true, that's because it is too good to be true.

Ich kenne den Service auch nicht, aber auf mich macht zumindest die Website einen guten Eindruck.
Die Locations sind Don Mills / Eglinton und Mills / Finch und damit nicht weit ab vom Schuss, TTC sollte da kein Problem sein.

Taxi Preise sind fixed, kommt aber trotzdem drauf an, wo genau man hin will, in Downtown.
Weiter östlich als die 401 kostet immer mehr als $40 plus tip http://gtaa.com/local/files/en/Traveller...ariffs-East.pdf

Ob das ganze illegal, gefährlich, unversichert etc ist, ...? Keine Ahnung, aber Deine Bedenken sind gerechtfertigt, allerdings bin ich mir sicher, dass viele Newcomer in den ersten Tagen froh wären, so etwas zu halbwegs fairen Preisen in Anspruch nehmen zu können. Ankommen ohne Geld im Überfluss, keine Bekannten vor Ort, die helfen, da führt bei manchem alleine schon die Wohnungssuche zu Depressionen...

I am not saying that this has to be a rip-off, but I am certain that there are better ways to arrange initial accommodation.

I have a number of personal friends who come from a Chinese background, so the fact that the owner is Chinese doesn't automatically bother me. In my experience, the Chinese and the Germans tend to get on well. Both cultures tend to like structure and somewhat formalized relationships, so maybe that's the reason. Don't shoot me if you disagree, it's just an observation.

However, I've seen the inside of rooming houses like this the last time we looked to buy a building in downtown Toronto. Scary, dirty, smelly, not a great place to start a new life, whatever nationality the owner might be.

Personally I would always recommend to rent a short-stay furnished apartment, then take it from there. There's an abundance of rental properties on the market at the moment, so finding a decent place to stay for the first year or two should not be a problem.
