"More than 65,000 temporary foreign workers live and work in Alberta. But this week our government is launching a review of how the federal temporary foreign worker program that brings them here, may be failing our province.
Critics say over time the program lowers wages, takes jobs from Canadians and fails immigrant workers. Alberta businesses say it supplies employees to fill jobs not enough Canadians are trained or willing to do.
Is the controversial program helping Albertans? Are there better options? And how much could our province hope to change our federal program?
Joining us for this conversation is Alberta’s minister of employment and immigration - Thomas Lukaszuk, followed by a panel discussion with Gil McGowan, president of the Alberta Federation of Labour and Richard Truscott, Alberta Director of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business." anyone saying it lowers wages, hasn't tried to get an LMO?? Fails immigrants? only if it isn't allowing to apply for PR afterwards, I'd say.
