Neighbours ramp up Christmas lights clash
Two Calgary men just finished up a friendly competition over who can put up the best Christmas lights display.
David Stokes transformed his suburban Calgary home with more than 12,000 lights — pulsing LEDs choreographed to well-known Christmas tunes.
The lights don't dance to music from speakers, but to music transmitted to the radios of passing cars.
"You find a song you want to animate it to and basically spend eight to 12 hours on the computer," he said.
"It's tireless work, and that's why I stretch it out over the year. I have a low-power FM transmitter so ... I don't have music blaring outside. I don't want to make the neighbours mad. It's bad enough I do this."
Stokes has even started a website so people can view his displays in the off-season.
