Hi! As some of you may already know my boyfriend is currently staying in Canada for half a year. Some time he came up with the topic food... He had asked his colleagues at work whether there's a good restaurant where we could go to eat some Canadian food during my trip to Canada. But most of them just said that they somehow do not know such restaurants. So he wondered whether there actually is "Canadian food"? Cause he also mentioned that he's already seen a lot of international restaurants. So what I'm interested in is: Is there any meal that's "typically Canadian" for you?
there is no such type of "Canadian food" since Canada is a melting pot of so much different countries. You can find different types of food anywhere: ukrainian, german, asian, east indian and so on.
"Typical" are also burger joints, steak houses or breakfast spots like "IHOP". I guess, typically canadian would be Tim Horton *lol*. Canadian might be moose, pancakes with maple syrup and salmon.
YvonneW, that's true... I think maple syrup is the stereotype most people connect with Canada. At least in Germany I think ;-) As your mentioning moose... One thing I'm also thinking of regarding Canada is Bison!
At our first visit we had made the same mistake... we asked for real canadian food..... like home cooking. What the people recommended was Sandwich, Burger, Fries, Steak....... Later we tried Poutine.... Poutine is a real canadian food and it taste good but it is nothing special.
teufeliene, even if Poutine doesn't seem to be something totally weird or unusual I've never seen it before... So I'll probably almost have to taste that :-)
