Having lived or having family that has lived in both...
Toronto:
Has become a big city. If you like that sort of thing hey its great. But these days it takes 1 to 2 hours via highway driving to get out of the city and that is too big for me.
It is smoggy, partially because in that area and the US there are oodles and oodles of people. There are dangerous spots and cool spots like any big city.
Weather has cold winters, and warm and humid summers. There are plenty of things to do in the summer, less in the winter.
You stand a higher chance of getting a job because there are more jobs, but also more people.
All in all, if you like a big city then TO is for you.
Vancouver
Smaller city with infrastructure. If you know Switzerland it is comparable to say Zurich or Geneva in all ways.
Vancouver is expensive and unless you are making oodles of money forget about trying to buy your own house or apartment. As one Canadian we know from BC put it, "I am thinking about retiring in Lausanne Switzerland because Victoria or Vancouver is way too expensive."
You are not overwhelmed by the size of the city because it is not that big. It still has a smaller city feel to it.
Nature is superb in summer and winter.
Though the winter in Vancouver SUCKS! I mean it really sucks! Imagine London in the winter and multiply it by two. To get an idea of how much it sucks goto http://www.theweathernetwork.com and look at the weather statistics of Vancouver in the Winter. Then using weathernetwork look at the statistics of say Munich flughafen. Look at rainfall and you will see how much it sucks in Vancouver.
However, with the bad winters come the absolutely gorgeous summers. Summer in BC cannot be beaten (unless you think about last summer). It is so nice because everything is green, sunny and there are mountains. The summers make up for the really bad winters.
I harp on the winters because it does drive many people bonkers.
I used to travel to Seattle quite a bit and there is this joke. How do you pour the concrete for fence poles in the Winter? Easy open the bag and put in the concrete.
This is serious because as one guy pointed out if you mix water with the concrete it will never set. There is so much moisture in the ground during the winter that the water will be sucked from the surrounding ground.
Overall though Vancouver is a West Coast city and Toronto is an East Coast city. Think of the East Coast more "European", and the West Coast more "Asian" with a frontier mentality.
If you have to earn money TO is the better choice. If you want quality of life then Vancouver is the better choice.

Wo es schoener ist? Schwer zu sagen............ kommt darauf an was ihr wollt. Berge? Ab nach BC! Seen? Willkommen in Ontario? Braune Baeren? BC! Schwarze Baeren??? Ontario! Und das Wetter? Da bin ich sozusagen Spezialist hier! Es ist saukalt! Grau und schneereich und saukalt! Und das wird sich auch nicht mehr aendern!!! Es bleibt so fuer eine laaaaaaaange Zeit! *heul*
"Tips zum Auswandern" ist zu allgemein, fragt etwas spezieller, dann koennt ihr eine Ernsthafte Antwort haben.

Ich jammere jetzt auch ein bisschen mit. Wir haben heute -20C, gefuehlte Temperatur knapp -30C Inzwischen haben wir den 4 oder 5 Snowstorm ueberstanden. Am lustigsten ist aber das mir seit knapp einem Jahr erzaehlt wird das alle Wetterphaenomene "absolutly unusual for this Province....this time of the year.....and so on" sind. Also das sagen die Jungs bei jedem snowstorm, wenn es saukalt ist oder wenn es im Sommer sauheiss war
