I have a rather complicated situation and can't seem to find the answers.
I am a canadian currntly living in Germany. I want to go back with my german wife, and my two children (6 and 8 years old). my wife is scared that she will be deported if the paperwork isn't done quicly enough (they wouldn't really throw out a wife and mother of two kids would they). I am a computer nerd (with a college diploma from Canada) and she is a nurse, so finding work is not going to be a problem. We are working our way through the Family sponsoring paperwork. I have land in canada and enough money to buy a mobile home until we build our dreamhouse. How can I send our life savings over? Would it make sense for my wife to get a job in Canada before we come over and have the employer handle the work visa papers? or would that make things even more complicated? My kids already have their candian passports (valid for a year until they get their official certificate of canadian citizenship). I want to make sure that when we all get to canada that none of us will be sent back after three months. if anyone could give me some tips I'd be really grateful .
first of all: nobody will kick you out after 3 month. My wife (Canadian) and I (German) did the exact same thing, we lived in Germany with our son and moved to Canada. Your wife will apply for immigration through "family class sponsorship", you will be her sponsor. You can do the immigration from Germany or come to Canada first and do it here. We did everything in Canada, took us from sending in the paperwork to receiving the permanent resident card about one year. Not sure how to transfer savings to Canada, unfortunately we had nothing to transfer........ It is a good idea for your wife to find a job first, this way she could get a temporary work permit and start working while she is in the immigration process....... One thing: Your kids have a Canadian passport, your wife has a German passport. Make sure, if your wife is leaving Germany with the kids but without you, that she has a permit to travel on her own with the kids. We had the same situation, my wife left Germany with our son, he had a German passport. Customs will question a parent travelling with a kid with a different nationality, I had to give permission for her to leave the country with him. There are just too many things now, ask specific what you want to know or send me a pm with the questions. Some forum members here know a lot (way more then I do) about the immigration laws, I can tell you from our experience going through that process.
o Ralph, transfering money to canada from Germany is not really a problem. First of all you (as a canadian) can ask a canadian bank to open an bank account (TD does it even online) and tranfer mony from german account to your canadian account. TD asks for a fee. How much you can check the website of them.
Once arriving n Canada you just need go to an office an "activate" the account - and done
Ralph don't forget, that your wife as a German citizen can stay for up to 6 month as a tourist in Canada. One month before she would have to leave Canada she can apply for an extension of her visitor visa. This would give her another 6 month. As your wife it is likely that she could qualify for an open work permit while she is awaiting her permanent resident visa through family membership sponsoring.
It might be necessary that she needs a booked return flight to Germany to avoid problems at the immigration office.
Regarding her profession as a nurse you should get her to read certain threads in this forum regarding needed qualifications etc.
Wow, lots of answers so quickly. If only the government would be a fast as you guys! So the papers are pretty much filled out, I need to get the land deed yet - and we've advertised ourselves in monster.ca (me as a systems analyst, her as a nurse). tlk to you guys later, eh!?

If your wife wants to work as a nurse in Canada she will have to go back to College...in Ontario she will be able to take advantage of the so called bridging program that lets her just take the courses she needs in order to become a registered nurse.... Other provinces might/have have the same....
yeah, this whole RN thing is going to be a lot of fun, too (we've submitted the required forms to the Canadian association of Registered Nurses in Alberta). She will have to pass a test befor she get the official RN title, ans the IELTS or whatever english test too. I was realy hoping that since we're married (ans I'm a canuck) and bringing out kids with us, that it might be easier to get the paperwork done. Apparently not. My wife is scared to death that we won't get the correct paperwork filled out/processed in time and that she would then be forced to leave her family (husband and 2 kids) by immigration. I'd like to think that we can get the family class sponsoring started in germany, and then come to Canada and complete the paperwork there (or is that just me being overly naive?). Is my thinking unrealtistic?
