Keine sorge-keine panik, das ist nur eine Tsunami watch, keine warnung! Trotzdem ist es gut zu wissen.

Wir haben immer noch keinen Kontakt nach Japan gehabt, logisch, aber sind
zuversichtlich.

Positiv- und Negativnachrichten hier im Forum verstehe ich nicht?

Sind Negativnachrichten nur erwähnenswert, wenn kanadische Politiker, deutsche Auswanderer,
Forumsuser irgendwas Negatives dort gemacht haben? Bei Naturgewalten, die Kanada betreffen könnten gilt das womöglich nur für Quebec als erwähnenswert.

"We don't have all the facts yet, but we heard the water surge came right up to the band office and there has been some flooding and now the tide has gone way out," he said....

Die einzig wahre Bedeutung fuer BC ist "Bring Cash"

Nun das Beben in Japan macht alle hier in Metro Van und VI besonders betroffen, da solch ein Beben hier noch groessere
Zerstoerungen verursachen wuerde. Die Frage ist ja nicht ob so starkes Beben hier vorkommen kann sondern wann es kommt. Leider sind die Building Codes hier nicht auf dem selben hohen Niveau wie in Japan. Richmond samt YVR wuerde quasi von der Landkarte verschwinden.

Betrifft nur das untere Drittel von BC. Der Rest bleibt davon verschont. Der Tsunami, der das ganze Lower Mainland ausradieren soll ist seit etwa 10 Jahren oder so ueberfaellig, darum sind die alle so nervoes. Fuer uns wird das dann interessant, weil wir dann nur noch 30 Minuten bis zum Hafen haben.

Wenn's passiert, dann passierts. Kannst eh nichts dagegen machen und sich deswegen den Kopf zerbrechen? Gibts besseres z.B. dass der Wells Gray PP einen eben so grossen Magmakern haben soll wie der Yellowstone. Wohnst dicht genu dran, dann brauchst dir keinen Kopf um den Ascheregen machen.

Nimm mal Google Earth, da kannst glaub ich so ziemlich alles inzwischen dazu runterladen. Such nach den entsprechenden KML files und lad die mit rein, dann kannst das vergleichen.

Soweit ich weiss war Port Alberni/Van Island in den 60er Jahren von einem Tsunami betroffen, das Beben ging damals von Alaska aus. Vor Vancouver und Seattle verlaeuft eine Subduktionszone daher ist die Region relativ gefaehrdet. In Vancouver wartet man regelrecht auf das grosse Beben. Unsere Kinder mussten in der jeweilige Schule in Vancouver ein Notfallset zusammenstellen mit einigen Kleinigkeiten die ihnen wichtig sind, ein Kuscheltier z.B., ein Spiel, etwas zu lesen. Dinge halt die ihnen Ablenkung bringen und in eine Plastiktuete passen. Am mulmigsten wurde uns, als uns Eltern aufgetragen wurde einen Aufmunterungsbrief an unser Kind zu verfassen mit Kontakt-Angaben zu Verwandten und Bekannten im Umkreis fuer den Fall der Faelle. Dieser wurde in die Tuete gelegt und alles zusammen in der Schule aufgehoben. Es gab regelmaessig Verhaltenstraining im Falle eines Erdbebens. In der Elementary z.B. wurde u.a. der geordnete Gang zum Tennisplatz geuebt, da der als am sichersten eingestuft wurde.

Nun Du hast doch sicherlich von der Spalte gehoert auf der sich Los Angeles und San Francisco in Kalifornien befinden.
Dieses System zieht sich die Pazifikkueste hoch an Seattle und Vancouver vorbei bis nach Alaska. Die ganze pazifische Platte
ist momentan recht aktiv. Erst Chile, New Zealand, Japan und Hawai'i ... what's next ??
