Germans return to 5 Wing Goose Bay CBC News Posted: May 14, 2012 1:04 PM NT
The German air force is back in Labrador after budget cuts led to more than a five-year hiatus from low-level flying in the area.
Germany sent several planes and crews to Happy Valley-Goose Bay a week ago for training; more are coming this summer.
German military Capt. Klaus Plasa said they're excited to be returning.
"The capabilities that we find in the training area is just awesome. You find everything from flat areas to valleys."
The German air force tried training elsewhere, following military budget cuts in the last decade. However, Plasa said other locations weren't nearly as good as those in Labrador.
In the 1980s and 1990s, there were hundreds of Germans stationed at 5 Wing Goose Bay.
