I'm not sure where I saw this - could be on vox channel ...
Fam. Janßen moved to Calgary with WP (Mr. Janßen) a few months ago. He and his wife got a job in an restaurant "Bavarian Inn". Now the boss doesn't want to employ Mrs. Janßen any longer (she has only an open wp) and the main reason was that she and her husband are talking german at presence of the canadian collegues.
The boss said he could sent Mr. Janßen back to Germany if they (the boss and him) won't be on the same wavelength and exert pressure to him.
The Boss actually mentioned it toooo often, that he wouldn´t send him back and that he is sooo fair.
Boss is using the Boss card too much!
I missed the first episodes, how it happend that the wife started working there, too, what the boss actually never wanted.
How could this happen, that you employ someone you never wanted...
*ironic on* "Ohhh, geee, somebody is working as a waitress here and I dont who she is? But anyhow, let her work! I won´t ask- I am just the boss. Do not have any rights here." *ironic off*
Never go to a German boss in Canada. It is a realy bad think. Usualy they useing the Germans like a slave. Not only my story - a story so old like the first settlers was comeing to Canada. Talk with people in the German Clubs in your town. It is all the same grab.
and even if mr janßen will loose his job he has time, at least a little bit, to find another one as far as i can remember. The point that was really unfair was the thing about asking mrs. janßen to work for him and afterwards telling stuff like i never hire couples or they talk to much german. I know talking german is rude to the canadians but her explanation was that she somtimes asked in german for the right english words or did i get this wrong?
I didn't see anything about this case - but it seems to me that this is a typical example for coming over with a wp. Maxim and others recommend allways to apply for PR if there is any chance, because than you are flexible over here. This does not mean that you can't trust any employers in canada, but this is a possibility what could happen.
but not everybody will gather the points for pr so what to do? You will use wp and try to get the points together. I think that is the usual problem the people have who are shown at tv ( some exceptions will be there of course)
I am also in an Office with 2 other German Guys and one Canadian.Guye
If we (the two Germans and I) are alone in the Office, we speak German. If sombody else is present in the Office who is not able to understand German, we speak English.
I can feel with the Bavarian Boss, he dont want to build 2 classes of Employee Groups.
May be the boss couldn´t understand them because he only speaks bayrisch and english (or what ever).
Anyway, it would never come to me mind to speak in a language that doesn´t everybody understand. still, it is quite common in Canada and nobody dares to complain. I think the boss is right.
As strange as it sounds, 0815, that's right so far.
Let me add that Mrs. Janßen mentioned that their boss even wanted to sponsor an explicit wp (in opposite to an open wp) for her before they arrived in Canada and now, only half of a year later, he is acting as if he had never wanted to employ her... very strange, isn't it?
I agree, Trudy, in my opinion it is rude to talk in a foreign language if there are people around which don't understand what one is saying. I don't like that myself... but the employer is german- so couldn't he simply tell them not to do so?
And the other question, I had in mind, is: he is paying for a waitress 1400$ per month (and she has only three shifts of work per week) - couldn't this be the reason why he wants to get rid of her but keep her husband? If I was not content with somebodies work I would want to get rid of both... *got questionsmarks above her head*
Bye Winnie
P.S. In this TV show the bavarian talked in german... and most bavarians do as far as I know (I am half-bavarian, so...) this can't be the reason
