A confirmed case of measles in the Edmonton area has prompted a public-health alert.

Alberta Health Services, the provincial health-care authority, wants to follow up with anyone who may have been in close contact with the ill person, who recently travelled outside Canada.

Passengers on Air Canada Flight 244 on Aug. 15 between Vancouver and Edmonton are asked to call Health Link Alberta as soon as possible.

The request extends to anyone who was in the baggage claim area at Edmonton International Airport between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. local time that day.

Measles is an extremely contagious respiratory disease caused by a virus and causes fever, runny nose, cough and a full-body rash.

Individuals who have not already had measles or who haven't been immunized are at the highest risk.

Confirmed measles in Edmonton area prompts alert

EDMONTON – Alberta Health Services (AHS) has confirmed a case of measles in the Edmonton area and is advising of potential exposures.

Individuals who were at the following locations within the timeframes specified may have been exposed to the confirmed case of measles:

Manulife Place (office tower only), 10180 101 Street, Edmonton
November 1, 2 & 3 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
November 4 9 a.m. to noon
Synergy Fall Social Event, Main Ballroom, Sutton Place Hotel, Edmonton
November 3 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
University of Alberta Hospital, Emergency Department, Edmonton
November 8 7:30 p.m. to midnight
November 9 Midnight to 4:30 a.m.

Individuals who were at the above locations within the noted timeframes may be at risk for developing the disease if they have not already had measles disease or have not been vaccinated against measles.

damit measles verständlich ist - blöde masern

In DE wurde ein paar Mal von Fällen berichtet, in denn sich Babys mit Masern angesteckt haben, bevor man sie impfen konnte. Nach Jahren bemerkte man es dann und die Kinder fielen erst ins Wachkoma und starben.
Ansonsten bekommt derjenige Masern, der nicht geimpft ist. Grundsätzlich könnte man ja meinen, dass sei das Recht eines jeden darüber zu entscheiden, ob er sich impfen will oder nicht. O.g Fälle zeigen jedoch, dass es kein Privatproblem ist. Außerdem treffen die Leute i.d.R die Entscheidung nicht für sich selber, sondern für ihre Kinder. Ich finde es unverantwortlich und es macht mich wütend.

Masern sind gefaehrlich und sollten nicht auf die leichte Schulter genommen werden,impfen halte ich fuer sehr wichtig !ABER bitte Trudy,informier dich bitte etwas genauer,die medizinischen Ablaeufe die du dort beschrieben hast,sind unwahr.
BTW ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit an Masern zu erkranken weit aus groesser als in Nordamerika,man spricht von einigen wenigen duzend Faellen in NOrdamerika und einigen Tausend in Europa/
